Brian Kehlenbach
 
Composer/Pianist
 
Brian Kehlenbach received musical experience as a composer, classical recitalist and jazz pianist in Hartford, Connecticut as well as Los Angeles, California. He holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Southern California, where he was named outstanding graduate in music theory and composition in 1991. He was the recipient of the Peter David Faith Memorial Award in Composition, the Jimmy McHugh Composition Prize and the Hans Salter Music Award.  Also, his piece Times of Reflection was a winning composition in the Freeman Competition of 1989.  He earned his M.M. and B.S degrees at the University of Connecticut graduating summa cum laude.
 
Recent performances of Kehlenbach's works include concerts presented by the Los Angeles SCREAM festival, the CalArts Contemporary Music Festival, the U.S.C. Contemporary Music Ensemble, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles John Cage Festival and KPFK radio. Also, his orchestra piece, Circumdare, was performed on the Piccolo Spoleto Festival of 1996 by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra.  His commissions include works for the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Biola University Youth Theatre.  His more recent choral and solo vocal works have been performed widely at many college and churches. Brian Kehlenbach currently teaches music theory, jazz history, and digital music production at Santa Ana College in Orange County, California, where he serves as Chair of the Music Department. In 1999, he was named Distinguished Faculty Lecturer.
